10/4/2023 0 Comments Tortilla flats providence![]() We shared a bowl of Gazpacho ($4.00) that was loaded with crispy veggies and then decided on our entrees. Starting with nachos and a 7 Layer Dip ($6.99) that was by far the best we ever had, we had to remind ourselves that there was much more to come. While many of the diners were enjoying the traditional quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas, we chose to go with some of the new items the talented chef had added to the menu. Joyce and I did our regular routine of ordering different appetizers and entrees and sharing. “With our new luncheon menu we hope to attract more business people, retired folks and small groups during the day.” ![]() “We do a terrific dinner business, both with the regulars from the neighborhood and people from the suburbs,” Joanne said. She actually hired Mat, they married, and took over ownership two and a half years ago. in Providence, kitty-corner from Hope High, for over 30 years, and Joanne has worked there as waitress and manager for half of that time. The East Side restaurant has been on the corner at 355 Hope St. The new owners added a couple of windows, expanded into the vacant building next door, built a huge U-shaped bar and spread out the tables and booths, giving the space a homey atmosphere. The biggest problems at Tortilla Flats are what to order…and when to stop eating and ask for the doggie bag. Joanne Everett and Mat Vincent bought the place and turned it into a bright, spacious, family-friendly, inexpensive, authentic Mexican restaurant surpassing the chains by a mile in quality and freshness. ![]() ![]() When we were asked to lunch at Tortilla Flats, we had visions of a dark, crowded neighborhood bar serving Mexican food. ![]()
